1st day to 3rd day Beijing immersion trip
It's Day 3 and most of the pupils have already started to lose steam. All except the boys of course, who seem to have an abundance of energy.
So far we've seen and conquered the Great Wall. The boys raced each other up the multitude of steps while the girls moved up ever so cautiously, trying hard to keep their balance. Eventually most of them rewarded themselves with a 'Hero' card. On a big stone right in the middle of the upper concourse are the words '不到长城非好汉'. Loosely translated it says that you're only a hero once you've conquered the Great Wall. I guess yesterday, many little heros had emerged.
When asked what they remembered most about their trip to the Great Wall, they shouted in unison - SNOW! Yes! We saw snow....many of us for the first time! Imagine that! With all the rich culture and history surrounding us, they were most intrigued by the little snow flakes falling on our noses. However, by the expresssions on their faces, I think its an experience they wouldn't forget!
Today, we went to the Forbidden City and Tianamen Sqaure. We took about 3 hours to get from the first gate to the last! You can imagine how tired they were when they got to the end. Yet, these little children still had the determination to finish climbing 60m of steps to have a bird's eye view of the palace grounds. It was truly an amazing sight!
Some of the pupils ahve already begun feeling homesick. But to see them lending each other a shoulder to cry on and looking out for one another is truly a heart-warming sight! Till the next post.... =)
